One of the oldest and most massive royal castles in South Moravia is a typical landmark of the Chřiby and one of the most important monuments of the early Czech Gothic. The castle was founded in the first half of the 13th century as the strategically defensive fortress of the middle Pomoraví. Until the establishment of the castle in nearby Buchlovice it was often rebuilt and expanded. Thanks to the last owners of Buchlov castle, the Berchtold family, there has been built a museum in the castle's premises.
