Velehrad
One of the most important pilgrimage sites of our republic is closely connected with the Cyril and Methodius tradition. The first Cistercian monastery was founded in Moravia in 1205 and was named by the founder after the nearby Veligrad settlement. Basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Cyril and Methodius is decorated with a series of paintings, banners and valuable gifts from pilgrims from around the world. Carved choir baroque benches and organ from the middle of the 18th century belong to the artistic treasures.
