Basic information

The royal town of Uherský Brod lies 28 km from the regional town of Zlín and some 18 km from Uherské Hradiště. The town is one of the oldest settlements in south-eastern Moravia, where the “teacher of nations” J. A. Komenský spent his childhood. The Olšava River runs through here. The first written records of the town date back to 1140. In 1272 the Přemyslid King Ottokar II of Bohemia promoted Uherský Brod to the status of a royal town.

When visiting Uherský Brod you can admire the town’s cultural and historical sights along the Trail through the Town Heritage Zone, which features five audio guides. Lovers of nature and active pursuits are sure to enjoy the educational trails and the series of cycle trails that lead through the picturesque countryside of the Uherský Brod region and the protected landscape area of the White Carpathians. The trails are suitable for sporty people as well as for families with children. In poor weather you can enjoy the modern Delfín aquapark. As Uherský Brod is J. A. Komenský’s town, there is a local museum dedicated to him. Children and astronomy buffs can take a closer look at space by visiting the observatory or digital planetarium.

During the year the town holds traditional events such as the White Carpathian Festivities, European Cultural Heritage Day – the Uherský Brod Region in Song and Dance, BRODexpo, the Rosary Fair and St. Catherine’s Fair.
