The Japanese Friendship Garden commemorates the twinning of Uherský Brod and the Japanese town of Tsukiyono in 1995.

The garden was created in autumn 1998 by five Japanese architects. The site chosen was the courtyard of the directorate of the J. A. Komenský Museum. It is a dry garden, or “Karesansui”, which symbolises the landscape with mountains, trees, and a river, where water is only hinted at by pebbles or sand. Japanese gardens are characterised by their stones, indicating mountains, bamboo, conifers and distinctive deciduous trees.
