Manor house

  1. mistoKaunicova 77, 688 01 Uherský Brod

A remarkable large Baroque palace-style building (a Baroque conversion designed by Domenico Martinelli) with a well-preserved and highly valuable older Gothic-Renaissance and Renaissance core and a number of interesting architectural details. Primarily profane (secular, non-religious) architecture, undoubtedly one of the most valuable buildings to have been preserved in the town’s heritage zone; its importance extends beyond the town boundaries.

Originally a town house, converted in the late Gothic or Gothic-Renaissance style into a new mansion house in 1512. The features preserved from this are the portals in the southern passage and the rooms behind them, along with the arcade courtyard. The Baroque reconstruction work was carried out at the turn of the 17th and 18th century for Dominik Ondřej of Kounice. The last comprehensive reconstruction was carried out in the 1970s, and an elementary art school was built into the attic. The Renaissance columns of the arcade courtyard have been replaced by copies (the original columns were more subtle, with softer profiles).

Nowadays the Mansion House is used as a multi-purpose building for the town’s cultural and social events. It contains a ceremonial hall, a gallery and a library.
