Town hall

  1. mistoMasarykovo nám. 100, 688 17 Uherský Brod

This originally Gothic building, later rebuilt in the Renaissance and Baroque styles and one of the town’s principal social and architectural landmarks, is situated on Masarykovo náměstí. A statue of Justice stands on the top of the Town Hall tower. The tower clock is interesting; it was made by the watchmaker František Lang and in 1723 a statues of Černý Janek was added, who according to legend saved the town from the invading Turkish kurucs. Below the front of the building there are spacious underground cellars and tunnels, which are part of the network of passages running under the middle of the old town. A unique astronomical clock made by Vilibald Růžička, who was born in Uherský Brod, is also on display in the building.
